Maintaining an e-cigarette is essential to have the best vaping experience. The coils are the most important pieces in this process. Have you noticed that your e-liquid doesn’t taste like it used to? Has the performance of your electronic cigarette dropped? the vape coil may need to be replaced with a new one.

When a vape coil reaches the end of its use, not only do you harm the taste and vaping experience, it can also reduce the lifespan of your vaping mod. Carrying out good maintenance will extend the life of your device. In this post, we can teach you how to detect when your coil may have worn out and how to change it.

What is a vape coil?

Inside an atomizer head is a bit of cotton inserted into the heating element “the heating coil”. The battery supplies power to the heating element, which heats the cotton (cotton, which should always be soaked with e-liquid) and vapour is produced.

How do vape coils lose effectiveness over time?

Coils are not built to last forever. Overheating and cooling during use cause the materials to wear down, which means they will eventually burn out. The way you use your vape mod can also affect and even speed up this process.

Taking several puffs of your device over a few seconds is often responsible for the rapid degradation of the coils, can also dry out your wick because the cotton doesn’t have enough time to absorb the right amount of vape juice.

Give your device 20 seconds between vape hits to help your coil increase its lifespan.

How often should I change my vape coil?

Depending on how much you vape, you may need to change it as often as once a week or as infrequently as once a month. Using your vape more frequently means you will need to change the coil more often. If you rarely vape, keep in mind that your vape coil needs to be replaced once a month.

What are the symptoms of a damaged vape coil?

To make sure you don’t vape with a damaged coil, look out for these signs that your coil has reached the end of its useful life.

A burnt taste.Vaping with a damaged coil will cause a burnt taste. This taste is so unpleasant that it completely ruins your hit. Never try to continue vaping if it tastes bad. You may accidentally vape a worn coil (this also happens when the cotton dries out due to lack of e-liquid, try to keep the cotton wet) but do not continue vaping with a burnt coil.

Gurgling sounds.

Vaper mods should not gurgle. Gurgling sounds are always a bad sign and require intervention. Replacing the vape coil is the easiest solution to gurgling noises. If your device continues to produce gurgling noises even after you have replaced the coil, it is a sign that something is wrong with your e-cigarette.

Weak or “off” vape juice flavour

A deteriorated coil can weaken the flavour of your vape juice. An e-liquid should taste the same regardless from the first hit to the last, so a weak flavour is a sign of a dead coil.

Worn coils can cause flavours to mix. If you have switched from Limozade to Platinum e-liquid and now get a horrible combination of both flavours, your coil may also be the cause. Many vapers change coils every time they switch flavours to avoid this problem altogether.

Low vapour production

The vapour produced by your coil will gradually decrease. At the end of your coil’s lifespan, you will see a much lower vapour output than usual. If the amount of vapour is much lower, you could be vaping with an old coil.

Low vapour production may also be the result of a dead battery. Be sure to check the charge of your device to make sure the battery is not running low before replacing the vape coil.

How to change a vape coil?

You may not be familiar with changing a coil. Fortunately, it’s a simple process that you’ll soon get very good about.

Disassemble your tank

To change your coils, you will need to disassemble your tank. Don’t worry, this isn’t as complicated as it sounds. Every vape mod is a little different, so check your manual, but usually, all you have to do is unscrew the tank from the bottom of your vape. Wrap your device in a paper towel to avoid getting vape juice on your hands. Then simply turn the tank upside down and twist it anticlockwise to remove it.

Empty your tank

Replace your coil when there is little vape juice left in your device. Use this time to clean the tank and all parts showing dirt. Pre-soak the absorbent material of your new coil. Don’t put a new coil directly into your vape device because the dry cotton will burn. Dampen the absorbent material of your coil with a few drops of the e-liquid you want to use to avoid mixing flavours.

Swap coils

Normally, your coil will unscrew easily from the bottom of the tank (consult your device manual if you have any doubts on how to remove the coil). You can now replace it with the new pre-soaked coil.

Refill your tank

Once your new coil is in place, you can reassemble the tank and screw it back onto your e-cigarette. Then fill your tank with your favourite e-Liquid.

Never run out of a coil

Replacing coils is something you will quickly get used to as you vape. Don’t wait until your e-liquid tastes like burnt paper to order more coils. Stock up ahead of time so you never run out of coils.

Some parts of your vape device will need to be replaced from time to time. Sometimes parts wear out or you may just want to upgrade your e-cigarette. Either way, LSVape has all the replacement vape parts you need. Check out our selection of coils for all major vape brands here.
